About the work 关于作品
The work is dedicated to the memory of Marla Mallett, the textile scholar and weaver whose writing on woven structures shaped how rugs and textiles are understood. Its title is a weave of meanings. Chromatic is colour as much as pitch: coloured threads of microtonal sound. Eccentric weaves are a technique in which weft threads curve around shapes instead of running straight, drawing curves within the otherwise rigid grid of warp and weft.
作品献给织物学者与织工 Marla Mallett，她对织物结构的著述，影响了人们对地毯与纺织品的理解。标题本身便是一种意义的编织。Chromatic 既指音高，也指色彩：微分音声响中的彩色丝线。Eccentric weaves（偏心织法）是一种织法，纬线不再笔直穿行，而是沿着形状弯曲，在经纬原本刚直的网格中织出曲线。
The music does the same to the grid of the keyboard and to the grid of time. Microtonal tuning bends the pitches between the keys, and the score’s own markings — Super Elastic Time, rall., accel., pitch bends — stretch and curve the beat. A Fantasia in the tradition of keyboard fantasias, it is also full of hesitation and wit: “how shall we begin?”, “procrastinating…”, “negotiating… blah blah blah”, “keep calm and carry on”, “lets begin again!”, and at last, “FINALLY!”
音乐对键盘的网格与时间的网格也做了同样的事。微分音调律让音高在琴键之间弯曲，而乐谱中的标记——Super Elastic Time（超弹性时间）、渐慢、渐快、弯音——则拉伸、弯曲了拍子。作为键盘幻想曲传统中的一首《幻想曲》，它也充满迟疑与机智：“how shall we begin?”（该怎么开始？）、“procrastinating…”（拖延中……）、“negotiating… blah blah blah”（协商中……）、“keep calm and carry on”（保持冷静，继续前进）、“lets begin again!”（重新开始吧！），最后是“FINALLY!”（终于！）
