About the work 关于作品
HURL AND CURL is a collaborative work by Alicia de Silva, Hoh Chung Shih and Joyce Beetuan Koh, made for the Hanoi New Music Festival 2018. It surveys the physical space of the performance by hurling and curling small musical cells through it, at different speeds and in zones of different density. The cells are made from sounds recorded and collected in the surroundings and environments of Singapore. Hurled and curled around the hall, they outline a space that surrounds the live musicians — in Hanoi, players of the Vietnamese flute and the đàn bầu, the monochord zither whose pitch bends under a flexible rod — and the listener moves through this pointillistic texture, guided by the sonorities of their instruments.
《HURL AND CURL》由 Alicia de Silva、何仲实与 Joyce Beetuan Koh 共同创作，为 2018 河内新音乐节而作。作品以速度各异、疏密不同的方式，把细小的音乐单元在演出空间中“抛掷”与“卷曲”，借此勘测空间本身。这些单元取自在新加坡的环境与周遭录制、采集的声音。这些声音在场内被抛掷、卷曲，勾勒出一个环绕现场乐手的空间——在河内，是越南笛与独弦琴（以弹性摇杆弯曲音高的单弦琴）的演奏者；听者穿行于这点描式的织体之中，由他们乐器的音色引领。
The score is a single page: a time chart of thirty one-minute columns showing when each of the five layers plays and when it rests. As the layers enter and drop out, the texture thickens and thins over half an hour.
乐谱只有一页：一张由三十个一分钟格组成的时间表，标示五层声音各自何时发声、何时休止。随着各层进进出出，音响织体在半小时之间时浓时淡。
乐谱：三十分钟、五个声部——越南笛、独弦琴与三位作曲家——逐分钟开启与静默。
